Pilots can use the IMSAFE Checklist to perform a self check on their mental and physical well being prior to beginning a flight operation.
I - Illness
Are you ill or have an illness that would make you unsafe to fly?
M - Medication
Are you taking any medication that could affect your mental or physical capacities?
S - Stress
Are you overly stressed about the flight or other life factors?
A - Alcohol
Are you under the influence of alcohol?
Is your blood alcohol content greater that 0.04%?
Are you hungover?
F - Fatigue
Are you overly tired due to life circumstances?
E - Eating and Emotion
Have you eaten properly?
Are you particularly emotional about a life circumstance?
Ensure you perform this quick self check each time before you fly! It can save you a lifetime of headache and help keep you and your passengers safe.
