Navigation Aids: VOR - QT

VOR TYPES:

  • VOR = Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range.

  • VOR/DME = VOR with Distance Measuring Equipment (DME).

  • VORTAC = VOR with TACAN (military use only).


VOR SERVICE VOLUMES:

Line of sight.


TERMINOLOGY:

  • OBS = Omnibearing Selector.

  • CDI = Course Deflection Indicator.

  • Cone of Confusion = Area near the VOR where signal is unreliable.

  • Reverse Sensing = Pilot induced error giving erroneous information.


TIME AND DISTANCE CALCULATIONS:


ANNOTATING VOR CHECKS:

SLED

  • S = Signature.

  • L = Location.

  • E = Error Amount.

  • D = Date.


VOR CHECK TYPES:

  • VOT = VOR Test Facility. +/-4.

  • Ground Check. +/-4.

  • Airborne Check.+/-6.

  • Dual VOR Check. 4 degree difference.
